A powerful 6.7-magnitude earthquake has struck Indonesia's Sulawesi island. The tremor was felt at 11:27 AM local time on Tuesday (June 16).

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter of the earthquake was located approximately 46 kilometers east-southeast of Palu, the capital of Central Sulawesi province.

The quake struck at a shallow depth of just 10 kilometers, raising concerns of high-intensity shaking across the region.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or major structural damage. Furthermore, Indonesian disaster management and meteorological agencies have not issued a tsunami warning following the quake.

Notably, Palu was devastated in 2018 by a catastrophic earthquake and subsequent tsunami that claimed more than 4,000 lives.

As a result, residents in the Sulawesi region remain on high alert regarding seismic risks.

Authorities are currently monitoring the situation and have advised local residents to remain vigilant against potential aftershocks.
