Following extensive negotiations, a historic agreement to end hostilities between the United States and Iran has finally been finalized. US President Donald Trump signed the accord during a dinner hosted at the Palace of Versailles near Paris, France, on Wednesday night (June 17), local time.

Alluding to the prolonged and complex nature of the negotiations while signing the US-Iran Memorandum of Understanding, President Trump remarked, “It wasn’t easy.”

The comment was captured in a video shared on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) by French President Emmanuel Macron, who hosted Trump at the dinner event.

In the caption accompanying the video, Macron stated, "This 14-point plan will pave the way for a lasting peace." He further noted that the agreement is expected to bring down global energy prices.

US Troop Presence and Nuclear Policy
Despite the historic accord, the United States will not immediately withdraw its military forces from the Persian Gulf region. Speaking to reporters in Paris, Trump indicated that US forces will remain stationed in the region for some time.

Trump also demonstrated a pragmatic stance regarding one of the key conditions of the agreement: Iran's nuclear program. He emphasized that preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons is a higher priority than completely destroying Tehran's highly enriched uranium stockpiles, noting that the destruction process is highly complex and time-consuming.

Reactions from Tehran
Iran has officially confirmed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding with the United States. Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei told state broadcaster Press TV that the agreement was signed on behalf of Iran by President Masoud Pezeshkian.

However, despite the signing, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, expressed deep mistrust toward Washington. Speaking to state media, Ghalibaf asserted that the US cannot be trusted despite the peace accord, warning that if the adversary fails to understand the language of reason, Tehran will respond with the language of force.
