A Dhaka court has issued arrest warrants for 29 individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, in connection with two corruption cases filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) over irregular plot allocations in Purbachal.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib issued the order on Tuesday (April 15), after taking into account the ACC's submitted charge sheets. ACC Assistant Director of Prosecution Aminul Islam confirmed the development.
The two ACC cases name 12 accused in the first and 17 in the second. All are currently absconding, prompting the court to issue arrest warrants.
Among the accused are high-ranking government officials, including:
- Md Saiful Islam Sarkar, administrative officer at the Ministry of Housing and Public Works
- Purabi Goldar, senior assistant secretary
- Kazi Wasi Uddin, additional secretary
- Md Shahid Ullah Khandaker, secretary
- Md Anisur Rahman Miah, former PA to the ex-chairman of RAJUK
- Mohammad Khurshid Alam, former RAJUK member
- Kabir Al Asad
- Tanmoy Das
- Mohammad Nasir Uddin
- Retired Major (Engineer) Shamsuddin Ahmed Chowdhury
- Md Nurul Islam
- Sheikh Shahinul Islam, director
- Md Hafizur Rahman, deputy director
- Habibur Rahman
- Mohammad Salah Uddin
- Sharif Ahmed
The charges allege abuse of power in securing six plots in the Purbachal area.
Sheikh Hasina has been in India since fleeing the country on August 5, following a student-led uprising that led to her resignation.
