A Dhaka court on Sunday set January 13 as the new deadline for submitting the probe report in the murder case of the country's popular movie star Salman Shah.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana passed the order after the investigating officer failed to submit the report.
Salman Shah's maternal uncle, Mohammad Alamgir, on October 21, 2025, filed the case against 11 people, including Salman's wife Samira Haque, with the capital's Ramna Police Station under sections 302 and 34 of the Penal Code.
The other accused are: Aziz Mohammad Bhai, Latifa Haque Lusi, Dawn, David, Zaved, Faruk, Ruby, A Sattar, Saju and Rijvi Ahmed Farhad.
Earlier, Dhaka's 6th Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Jannatul Ferdous Ibn Haque ordered the Ramna Police Station officer-in-charge on October 20, 2025, to file a report treating the death of Salman Shah (Chowdhury Mohammad Shahriar Emon) as a murder case.
This directive formally nullifies the previous unnatural death case, which the court had cancelled and revoked on October 31, 2021.
According to the case statement, the events unfolded on September 6, 1996, when Salman Shah's mother, Nilufar Zaman Chowdhury (Neela Chowdhury), his now-late father, Kamar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, and their younger son, Shahraan Shah, went to Salman's residence in New Eskaton to meet him.
Upon their arrival, Salman’s wife, Samira, and a domestic aide named Abul informed them that Salman was sleeping. Film producer Siddique was also there to meet the star. Hearing that Salman was unavailable, his parents told Samira they would meet him on their way to Sylhet.
Later that day, production manager Selim urgently phoned Kamar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, saying "something had happened to Salman" and urging the family to go to his house immediately.
When Neela Chowdhury, her husband, and their younger son reached the house, they found Salman lying motionless in his bedroom. A few unknown women were reportedly rubbing oil on his hands and feet. In another room, Samira's relative, Ruby (who ran the nearby Mayfair Beauty Parlour), was sitting.
Salman’s mother screamed and insisted they rush her son to the hospital. At that moment, one of Samira’s acquaintances reportedly shouted at Salman’s mother, saying, "You get out of my house."
Salman’s parents quickly took him toward Holy Family Hospital, where they noticed rope marks on his neck and his face and legs turning blue. His mother insisted on taking him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared Salman Shah dead upon arrival, noting he had died some time earlier.
Following the incident, Kamar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury initially filed an unnatural death case. However, the following year, on July 24, 1997, Salman Shah's father filed a separate petition with the court, alleging murder and seeking to register the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
The current complainant stated: "As Salman's father—my brother-in-law—has passed away, I am pursuing the case on behalf of my sister under the power of attorney vested in me."
