Arrest warrant against Mahmudur Rahman

The court has issued arrest warrant against the Acting Editor of The Daily Amar Desh Mahmudur Rahman.

Judge of Sunamganj sadar zone Judicial Magistrate Court Md. Delwar Hossain passed the order on Thursday.

The judge issued the arrest warrant against him as he failed to produce him before the court in a defamation case filed by a Chhatra League leader in Sunamganj.

Lawyer of Mahmudur Rahman Md. Abdul Haque said, Mahmudur Rahman is undergoing treatment at United Hospital in Dhaka after being injured in an attack by miscreants while giving attendance in the Kushtia court on July 22.

He said, we appealed for staying the matter after submitting necessary documents in the court. But the court rejected our plea and issued arrest warrant against him.

According to the case source, the then joint convener of district unit Chhatra League Nazmul Haque Kiron filed a defamation case with Sunamganj sadar model police station against Mahmudur Rahman on December 14 last year.

The court summoned Mahmudur Rahman considering the matter under section 500 and 501 of the criminal procedures. Thursday was the date of his attendance. But he failed to produce himself before court. So the arrest warrant was issued.
