Hult Prize competition at Chittagong University

University of Chittagong (CU) is hosting the renowned ‘Hult Prize’ competition for the first time with huge response and support from the entire campus and community.

The Hult Prize is a brainchild of Ahmad Ashkar who came up with the ingenious idea while pursuing an MBA at Hult International Business School and later transformed his idea into reality in collaboration with BertilHult. Established in 2010.

The Hult Prize Foundation is the world’s largest engine for the creation and launch of a market- based, SDG-aligned, sustainable, and impact-centered startups emerging from university, offering a grand prize of 1,000,000 US Dollar. The Hult Prize truly emphasizes a practical approach to learning how to become an impact entrepreneur where students build a team, brainstorm ideas, start a business, and pitch to impressive audiences.

Hult Prize has helped launch social enterprises that serve the least fortunate, tackle humanity’s greatest challenges, and pursue large, untapped markets. Every year, the Hult Prize has crafted challenges and helped launch startups that actively solve UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This year’s challenge is to “To develop an idea to provide 10,000 meaningful jobs for young people within the next decade”

The online round is going on in full swing. The other on-campus segment is the Final Round which will be on 16th November where the top 10 ideas will be presented and participants will have to compete through presentations slides and Q&A sessions. The Champion team from the campus will directly fly to Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Dubai, London or any of the 25 hosting cities to participate in the Regional Finals.

3G, 4G services resumed after 10 hours

Mobile Internet 3G and 4G services have been resumed on Friday morning 10 hours after the closure of its services on Thursday night. After getting the directives of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), the 3G and 4G services were reopened at 8:30am, said the officials of the mobile phone operators. Earlier, the officials of the mobile phone operators were instructed on Thursday night to temporarily shut down the services, said an official of the BTRC, preferring to be unnamed. Writ challenges EC’s decision on Jamaat leaders’ candidatures

A writ was filed with the High Court challenging the legitimacy of the Election Commission's decision that Jamaat-e-Islami leaders are not barred from participating in the December 30 general election. Barrister Tania Amir submitted the writ plea on Wednesday morning. A HC bench of Justice JBM Hasan and Justice Md Khairul Alam will hear the writ petition on Thursday, said the petitioner. MHK

Candidacies of 8 upazila chairmen cancelled in Appellate Division

The Chamber Judge Court has delivered ‘No order’ over the matter of appeal filed by eight upazila chairmen whose candidacies were cancelled in the eleventh national parliament election. The chamber judge court of the Appellate Division Justice Nuruzzaman delivered the order on Monday. Following the order the previous verdict of High Court will be reinstated. For this reason total 8 candidates including 7 of BNP and one independent cannot return to the election. The High Court issued rule suspending their candidacies as all of these candidates were running in the general election while remaining in their post of upazila chairman. In this situation the candidates filed appeal individually to the Appellate Division seeking stay order on the High Court order. The candidates are- Faridul Kabir Talukder of Jamalpur-4, Md. Fazlur Rahman of Joypurhat-1, Abdul Mazid of Jhinaidaha-2, Abu Sayeed Chand of Rajshahi-6, Engineer Moslem Uddin of Brahmanbaria-4, Khondoker Abu Ashfaque of Dhaka-1 and Tamij Uddin of Dhaka-20. The chamber court also reinstated the nomination paper cancellation order of Mymensingh-8 constituency’s independent candidate Mahmud Hasan Suman. The lawyers of the candidates said, to take part in the parliament election these candidates resigned from their posts and submitted nomination papers. But the concerned Returning Officers cancelled the nomination papers as their resignation letters were not accepted. They appealed to the Election commission but were denied. Later they appealed in the High Court. AH

97.59 pc pass in PEC, 97.69 pc in Ebtadayee

The results of Primary Education Completion (PEC) and Ebtadayee examinations were published on Monday. The pass rate in PEC exam is 97.59 percent while the rate is 97.69 percent in Ebtadayee exam. A total of 3,68,193 PEC students got GPA 5 while the number of GPA 5 achievers in Ebtadayee exam is 12,224. Earlier in the morning, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid and Primary and Mass Education Minister Advocate Mustafizur Rahman handed over the results to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the PM’s official Ganabhaban residence here. The PEC and Ebtedayee examinations were held from November 18 to November 26. MHK

JSC pass rate 83.65 pc, JDC 89.04 pc

The results of Junior School Certificate (JSC) and Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) Examinations-2018 were published on Monday. The pass rate in JSC exam is 83.65 percent while it is 89.04 percent in JDC exam. According to Education Ministry sources, this year, a total of 68,095 students secured GPA-5. As many as 26, 70,333 students from 29,677 educational institutions appeared in this year’s JSC and JDC examinations. Of them, 12, 23,732 are male and 14, 46,601 are female students. This year, the number of JSC students was 22, 67,343 and the number of JDC students is 4,02,990. Earlier in the morning, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid and Primary and Mass Education Minister Advocate Mustafizur Rahman handed over the results to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the PM’s official Ganabhaban residence here. JSC and JDC examinations were held from November 1 to November 15 with participation of 25,99,169 examinees. The PEC and Ebtedayee examinations were held from November 18 to November 26. MHK
