Police have arrested Barrister Turin Afroz, a former prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal. Md. Mohidul Islam, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police's (DMP) Uttara Division, confirmed the matter.
He stated on Monday night (April 7th) that the Uttara West Police Station conducted a raid on her residence in Uttara and arrested Barrister Turin Afroz. She has been brought to the police station following her arrest.
Mohidul Islam said that there is a case filed against Barrister Turin Afroz at the Uttara West Police Station. This case is in connection with an allegation of attempted murder of a student during the anti-discrimination student movement.
Earlier, Hafizur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Uttara West Police Station, confirmed the raid on Turin Afroz's house, saying, "We have surrounded Barrister Turin Afroz's house. There are multiple cases against her in Nilphamari in addition to the one at Uttara West Police Station."
It is noteworthy that Turin Afroz was removed from her position as a prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal in November 2019 following allegations of a secret meeting with an accused in a war crimes case in 2018.
