
Nine students of Ahsanullah and Suhrawardy halls of Bangladesh University of Engineering Technology (BUET) have been expelled lifetime over allegation of involvement in ragging. Along with this they were expelled from academic activities for 4 to 7 terms.
BUET student welfare department Director and Member Secretary of board of residence and discipline committee Professor Mizanur Rahman delivered the information at a press conference in front of the Vice Chancellor’s residence on Thursday.
He said, besides four students of Ahsanullah hall were warned and 17 students of Suhrawardy hall were suspended in different terms and warned for the future.
The lifetime expelled nine students are- Sabyasachi Das Dibya, Saumitra Lahiri, Plaban Chowdhury, Nahid Ahmed, Arnab Chowdhury, Farhad Hossain, Mobashwer Hossain Shanto, ASM Mahadi Hasan and Akib Hasan Rafin.
On October 6 Abrar Fahad, a second year student of electric and electronic engineering of the university was beaten to death by a group of leaders and activists of BUET unit Chhatra League. After the incident students began to boycott the classes and examinations. At one stage they gave three conditions to the university administration for returning their classes and examinations. Out of three the second condition was- punishment for the involved people in connection with ragging incidents that were happened earlier in Ahsanullah, Suhrawardy and Titumir halls.
