China summons Philippines envoy as Manila congratulates Taiwan’s President elect
In swift action after the Taiwan election results, China summoned the Philippines ambassador as Manila congratulated the winner of Taiwan’s presidential election, Al Jazeera reported on Tuesday.   It reported that the Chinese side on Tuesday lashed out at the Philippines after President Ferdinand Marcos sent Taiwanese President-elect Lai Ching-te a note on his victory in the recent vote. The highly undiplomatic comments from Beijing, which warned Manila “not to play with fire,” will likely deepen the tension between the pair, which have been jousting over contesting territorial claims in the South China Sea.   In a social media post on Monday, Marcos told Lai, a staunch opponent of China and its claims to Taiwan, that he looks forward to cooperating. Expressing disappointment over the Manila move, Beijing’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Mao Ning said, “The Chinese side is strongly dissatisfied and resolutely opposes” Marcos’s remarks and urged Manila to give “a responsible explanation”.   The Philippines’ Foreign Ministry said that Marcos’s remarks were a way of recognising the Philippines and Taiwan’s “mutual interests”, including the 200,000 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) on the island, Al Jazeera reported. “The message of President Marcos congratulating the new president was his way of thanking them for hosting our OFWs and holding a successful democratic process. Nevertheless, the Philippines reaffirms its One China Policy,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.   However, Mao said the remarks were still a violation of the “one China” principle, a principle that Beijing says provides the basis of its claim to sovereignty over Taiwan. The Foreign Ministry spokeswoman also said that Marcos’s remarks were “a serious breach of the political commitments made by the Philippines to the Chinese side, and a gross interference in China’s internal affairs.” “We are telling the Philippine side not to play with fire on the Taiwan issue … and to stop immediately its wrongful words and deeds on Taiwan-related issues and sending wrong signals to separatist forces for Taiwan independence,” she added.   Beijing does not maintain diplomatic ties with countries that recognise Taiwan and opposes official communications with Taipei by other countries. Independence-leaning Lai secured an easy victory in Taiwan’s presidential election on Saturday. The president-elect has also offered to hold talks with China, but Beijing has snubbed the invitation, Al Jazeera reported.   Other leaders that have also congratulated Lai on his victory include US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa. Recent months have seen Beijing engaged in tense standoffs with the Philippines in the disputed South China Sea. China has also been ramping up its military activity around Taiwan. China has vowed to seize the island it considers part of its territory by force if necessary.

BNP’s corruption on power sector belies its future pledges: Joy
BNP’s recent pledges before the public over power sector rang hollow as it comes without any acknowledgment and even extension of any apology over rampant corruption spree overseen by fugitive convict Tarique Rahman, acting chairman of BNP, during its regime. Prime Minister's ICT Affairs Adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy today pointed out such dismal tale of corruption taken on an unprecedented scale by BNP-Jamaat during its last tenure between 2001 and 2006 on power and called it a shameless party for vowing to reform the power sector that it has destroyed driven by its leaders’ lust for money.   The latest remark from the ICT exponent came through a Facebook post on his verified account along with a audiovisual titled 'Reformation proposal by Mirza Fakhrul's quarter: will BNP revive the power sector that it has destroyed?' The only feat BNP achieved during its tenure is activating the operation of Tongi Power Station through overhauling on September 3, 2005. Its plaque was inaugurated by then Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. But, the power station tripped even before she could reach Abdullahpur in Uttara after inaugurating it, Joy recalled. "Mirza Fakhrul vowed before media that if they came to power, they will change the power sector beyond imagination.  During their tenure between 2001 to 2006, BNP couldn’t add even single megawatt electricity to the grid. In the name of electricity generation, Tarique's cohorts with a Hawa Bhaban syndicate looted billions of bucks by simply erecting electric posts," said the commentary in the video. Source: BSS AH
Physically moving disabled satellite into graveyard orbit is new threat: Indian Air Chief Marshal
Indian Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari Thursday said that China's latest demonstration of physically moving one of its disabled satellites into the graveyard orbit is bringing new threats in the space domain. While delivering the inaugural address at the 13th Jumbo Majumdar International seminar, he said, "China's latest demonstration of physically moving one of its disabled satellites into the graveyard orbit is bringing new threats in the space domain." "The first and foremost challenge that we will face is that of keeping pace with technology...No other field has seen such rapid transformation in technology as air-power has seen in the last 120 years of its existence. It has seen an evolution from a small biplane to space-based anti-satellite weapons," he added. "The second challenge that I foresee is to develop doctrines, training philosophies, and concepts of operations. There is a need for doctrines to be contemporary because if the fundamental guiding principle is dated then our warfighting will also be dated," he stated. Doctrine is an important element in the development of future force structures and capability requirements that will require capability dedicated and specialized requirements, said Chaudhari, adding "our training philosophy will need to be modern, flexible, and adaptive". "A well-trained air warrior who is technologically sound and yet able to adapt to disruptions would serve a future force multiplier. The next step is to use the doctrines and well-trained manpower to evolve employment philosophies and concepts of operations. This would require joint planning and joint execution of plans," he said. The next challenge will be of command and control, and another will be aerospace control, he said, adding that the primacy of who will do what cannot be determined by the pro-rata system of who has a larger mass of forces or equipment. "This process must change and it will be important to appreciate the capabilities of each service to make 2 plus 2 equal to five," he further said. He further stated, "The fundamental strength of individual services must be brought together to deter potential enemies and decisively win the nation's war. There is a need to wage tomorrow's wars with pragmatism and not necessarily idealism. One such challenge is aerospace control." Source: ANI
