The nomination paper for Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman to contest the Bogura-6 constituency was officially declared valid on Saturday.
Returning Officer Md Toufiqul Rahman announced the decision this morning following a thorough scrutiny process at his office.
The seat will also see a contest from Jamaat-e-Islami-backed candidate Principal Abidur Rahman Sohel, whose nomination was likewise validated.
However, the scrutiny resulted in the rejection of nomination papers for several other aspirants, including ANM Mamunur Rashid (Islami Andolan), Abdullah Al Waki (JSD) and Dilruba (Basad).
Tarique Rahman is set to contest the upcoming for the upcoming 13th National Parliament Election 2026 and the Referendum, which is scheduled for February 12, from two high-profile seats -- Bogura-6 and Dhaka-17.
The nomination papers for both constituencies were submitted on December 29.
According to BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed, this dual-candidacy is a deliberate component of the party’s broader election strategy.
Meanwhile, as per the official roadmap, the election campaign period will formally commence on January 22 and conclude 48 hours prior to the start of polling, which is set to begin at 7:30 am on February 10.
The validation of the BNP leader's candidacy marks a significant milestone as the country prepares for the upcoming polls, with Bogura-6 traditionally serving as a stronghold for the party.
