The nomination paper of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been officially validated for the Thakurgaon-1 constituency.
District Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Irshat Farzana confirmed the decision this afternoon following a formal scrutiny process for the upcoming 13th National Parliament Election 2026 and the Referendum.
Alongside the BNP leader, the nominations of two other candidates for the same seat were also found valid -- Delwar Hossain, former President of Islami Chhatrashibir and Central Majlish-e-Shura member of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and Khademul Islam, vice-president of the Thakurgaon district unit of Islami Andolan Bangladesh.
Reporting on the overall election landscape in the district, Deputy Commissioner Irshat Farzana noted that a total of 21 candidates submitted nomination papers across Thakurgaon's three constituencies.
While the verification for Thakurgaon-1 is complete, the process for Thakurgaon-2 and Thakurgaon-3 is currently ongoing. As of the latest update, one nomination has been canceled and three others have been suspended pending further review.
The validation of Mirza Fakhrul’s candidacy sets the stage for a high-profile contest in the northern district, as the nation prepares for the general election on February 12.
