
High-ranking officials from the Trump administration held a virtual meeting with angladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairman Tarique Rahman on Friday morning to discuss the interim government’s negotiated tariff agreements and strategies for bolstering bilateral trade.
The 30-minute session, which took place from 9 am to 9:30 am (BST), connected the BNP leadership in Dhaka with the US delegation in Washington, D.C.
Joining Tarique Rahman from the BNP side was Humaiun Kabir, Joint Secretary General and Foreign Affairs Adviser to the Chairman, as confirmed by his Press Secretary, Saleh Shibly.
The American delegation was led by US Trade Representative (USTR) Jamieson Greer and included a high-level team consisting of Assistant USTR for South and Central Asia Emily Ashby, Deputy Assistant USTR Rick Switzer, USTR Chief of Staff Sam Mulopolous and Senior Policy Adviser D.R. Seckinger.
During the dialogue, Tarique Rahman underscored the necessity of deepening trade engagement and expanding cooperation across various sectors to strengthen the economic bond between Bangladesh and the United States.
This engagement signals a significant diplomatic outreach by the US toward the BNP leadership as the Trump administration explores new avenues for trade and mutual interest in the region.
