Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairman Tarique Rahman is set to headline a massive election rally at the Collectorate Eidgah Maidan in Rangpur Friday afternoon, marking a significant stop in his fourth-phase campaign tour of the northern region.
This visit is particularly historic as it marks Tarique Rahman’s first return to the city in over two decades, with his last visit dating back to 2004.
Before the main event, the BNP Chairman will visit the village of Babanpur in Pirganj Upazila to pay his respects at the grave of Shaheed Abu Sayeed, a iconic martyr of the July 2024 student-led uprising.
He is scheduled to meet with Abu Sayeed’s family members to offer his condolences and support. Accompanying him will be Saiful Islam, the BNP candidate for the Rangpur-6 (Pirganj) constituency and convener of the District BNP.
Following the visit to Pirganj, Rahman will proceed to Rangpur city for the divisional-level rally scheduled for 4:30 pm.
Organizers expect the Eidgah ground to transform into a "sea of people," where the Chairman is anticipated to introduce all 33
BNP-nominated candidates for the Rangpur division.
His speech is expected to focus on the party's future development plans for the underdeveloped northern region, including the highly anticipated implementation of the Teesta Master Plan.
Security has been tightened across Rangpur, with the Metropolitan Police deploying a combination of uniformed, armed and plainclothes personnel.
Surveillance has been intensified at all city entry points and major intersections using an extensive CCTV network.
After the rally, Tarique Rahman is scheduled to return to Bogura for an overnight stay before continuing his campaign in Sirajganj and Tangail on Saturday.
