After Kohli, Rohit also announces retirement from T20 internationals
World Cup-winning captain Rohit Sharma also said goodbye to international T20 cricket after Virat Kohli who brought India a reason to celebrate after a long 13-year long title drought of T20 World Cup.
Rohit did not announce his retirement at the award ceremony with Kohli. But in the official press conference, he confess about his retirement from T20 World Cup.
Rohit said, 'This was my last (T20) game as well..No better time to say goodbye to this format. I've loved every moment of this. I started my India career playing this format. This is what I wanted, I wanted to win the cup.'
'I wanted this badly. Very hard to put in words. It was a very emotional moment for me. I was very desperate for this title in my life. Happy that we eventually crossed the line.' the Indian captain added.
Rohit's international T20 career stopped at 159 matches with this announcement of retirement. He is the highest run scorer in T20 cricket at the time of departure. 4,231 runs accumulated to his name.
Like his teammate Kohli, he also won two World Cups this year. Earlier, Rohit was in the squad that won the ODI World Cup in 2007.
Despite retiring from T20, Rohit said that he will continue playing One Day and Test cricket series. Kohli will take the ODI and Test career further.
