Ecuador put up a great fight against Argentina in the quarter-finals of the ongoing Copa America. The team could make history and get a ticket to the semi-finals if they could make it to the end. However, Ecuador lost 4-2 to Argentina due to Tiebreaker failure.

The Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) has sacked coach Felix Sanchez after the loss to Argentina on Friday morning (July 5).

In a statement, the FEF said it would like to thank Felix and his coaching staff for their work and professionalism and wish them every success in the future.

Argentina took the lead in the first half with Lisandro Martinez's goal. That lead was held by the reigning champions till 90 minutes. But in the injury time, Kevin Rodriguez's header equalized Ecuador. As the two teams were tied at 1-1, the match turned into a tiebreaker.

Ecuador missed the first two shots. Argentinian goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez blocked both shots. Therefore, even after scoring two goals, Ecuador did not reach the semi-finals.

So Sanchez heard the news of dismissal immediately after the match. He signed a four-year contract with Ecuador in March last year. But it did not last even a year and a half.
