After securing their first BPL title last season by defeating Cumilla, Mizanur Rahman had expressed his wish to take the trophy to Barishal. However, due to various complications, he couldn't fulfil that plan. This time, after winning their second championship, team owner Mizanur Rahman and captain Tamim Iqbal are determined to make it happen.
Tomorrow (Sunday), Barishal's cricketers will head to their hometown with the trophy. Following the final match on Friday (February 7) at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla Stadium, Tamim and franchise owner Mizanur Rahman confirmed the plan.
"We couldn't go to Barishal last time after winning the BPL. But this time, we've planned to be there on February 9. Hopefully, the people of Barishal will be there to welcome us. If everything goes well, you'll see us with the trophy that day," said Tamim.
Barishal residents generally prefer travelling by launch, leading many to believe that Tamim, Mushfiqur, and the team would take the trophy home by the river. However, it has been confirmed that the franchise will fly from Dhaka to Barishal with both trophies.
Mizanur Rahman explained, "I won't have enough time to travel by launch. The players have upcoming matches, and I only have one day. So, flying is the only option."
Since BPL matches were hosted in Dhaka, Sylhet, and Chattogram, many Barishal fans missed the chance to watch their team live in action. To honour those fans, the champions have decided to visit Barishal and celebrate with them.
