Due to the influence of a deep depression, various parts of the country experienced intermittent rainfall last Thursday (May 29), with some areas receiving very heavy downpours.
Today, Friday (May 30), seven divisions are expected to see heavy to very heavy rainfall, along with the risk of landslides. This information comes from a cautionary statement signed by meteorologist Kho. Hafizur Rahman of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department on Thursday.
The statement indicates that the deep depression, which originated in the Bay of Bengal, has crossed the West Bengal-Bangladesh coast between Sagar Island and Khepupara. It is projected to continue moving north or northeast and gradually weaken.
As a result, from 7 PM on Thursday for the next 48 hours, many places in the Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions are likely to experience heavy (44-88 millimeters in 24 hours) to very heavy (up to 188 millimeters in 24 hours) rainfall. Over the subsequent 24 hours, similar conditions are expected in many parts of the Rangpur, Rajshahi, and Dhaka divisions.
The very heavy rainfall poses a landslide risk in hilly areas of the Chattogram, Rangamati, Khagrachhari, Bandarban, and Cox's Bazar districts. Additionally, heavy rainfall could lead to temporary waterlogging in parts of Dhaka and Chattogram metropolitan areas.
