Arsenal is set to host Atletico Madrid tonight in a high-stakes UEFA Champions League semifinal second leg, as the Gunners aim to secure their first final appearance in 20 years.

The tie is currently balanced at 1-1 following a tightly contested first leg in Madrid where both teams converted from the penalty spot.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expressed the team's determination ahead of the clash, stating, "After 20 years to be in this position again, we are so hungry to get the game that we want and go through to that final."

While Arsenal previously dominated Atletico with a 4-0 home win during the league phase in October, Atletico coach Diego Simeone expects a much more disciplined showing from his squad, noting he has "a lot of faith" in their current momentum.

Both sides have been bolstered by the return of key players from injury. Forward Julian Alvarez is expected to feature for Atletico, while Arsenal welcomes back captain Martin Odegaard and forward Kai Havertz.

Historically, Atletico has reached the final twice under Simeone (2014 and 2016), falling both times to Real Madrid.

Arsenal’s solitary final appearance was in 2006, ending in a loss to Barcelona. The winner of tonight’s match will face either Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich in the final; PSG currently holds a 5-4 lead heading into their Wednesday return fixture.

Beyond European glory, Arsenal is also in the driver's seat for their first Premier League title in 22 years.

Following Manchester City’s recent 3-3 draw with Everton, the Gunners can clinch the domestic trophy by winning their final three matches. In contrast, Atletico sits fourth in La Liga, trailing leaders Barcelona by 25 points.
