Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Tuesday provided the necessary financial assistance for constructing a house for Ritu Porna Chakma, one of the star players of the Bangladesh National Women’s Football Team.
The Prime Minister handed over the assistance cheque to Ritu Porna Chakma at his office in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban here on Tuesday afternoon during a break in the ongoing budget session, according to Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Md Suzauddhowla (Sujon Mahmud).
State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque, State Minister for Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs Mir Helal Uddin, State Minister for Textiles and Jute Shariful Alam, and Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) President Tabith Awal were present on the occasion.
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) had previously stood by Ritu Porna Chakma and her family as well.
In 2025, when financial support was needed for the medical treatment of her mother, who was suffering from cancer, financial assistance was provided under the direction of the then BNP Acting Chairman and current Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Following the instruction of Tarique Rahman, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and Convener of the ‘Amra BNP Poribar’ Atikur Rahman Ruman visited Ritu Porna’s home in a remote hilly area of Rangamati to inquire about her mother’s condition and handed over the necessary financial financial assistance.
Ritu Porna, recognized as one of the brightest stars of Bangladesh football, has played a significant role in the ongoing success of the country’s women’s football team.
She was one of the key players in Bangladesh’s consecutive SAFF Women’s Championship victories in 2022 and 2024.
In addition, she made an important contribution to Bangladesh’s historic qualification for the final round of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup in 2025, marking the first such achievement in the country’s sports history.
Coming from a modest family in the hill tracts and achieving tremendous success at both national and international stages, Ritu Porna Chakma has become a true inspiration for countless women footballers across Bangladesh.
