Bangladesh created history on Sunday by securing a 23-run victory over Pakistan in their Group A match of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup.

This landmark win marks the first time Bangladesh has achieved two victories in a single edition of the tournament, keeping their semifinal aspirations very much alive.

Defending a modest target of 123, the Tigresses staged a brilliant recovery after a strong start from Pakistan, who had reached 39 without loss in their chase.

The momentum shifted decisively when left-arm spinner Nahida Akhtar struck twice in quick succession to remove both openers, triggering a major collapse in the Pakistani batting order.

Gull Feroza, who scored 23 off 18 balls, was caught by Sobhana Mostary off Nahida’s bowling, while Muneeba Ali, who contributed 25 from 30 deliveries, also fell to Nahida.

Sanjida Akter further dismantled the Pakistani lineup by claiming three crucial wickets, including that of Ayesha Zafar, who had attempted to stabilize the innings with 11 off 12 balls.

Aside from the top-order batters, only Fatima Sana reached double figures for Pakistan, managing 10 runs off 17 balls as the side eventually finished on 100-8 in their allotted 20 overs.

Earlier in the match, Bangladesh elected to bat first and initially faced a shaky start, finding themselves at 13-3.

The innings was steadied by a vital 35-run partnership between Sobhana Mostary and captain Nigar Sultana Joty. Sobhana contributed 22 off 19 balls before her dismissal, while Joty anchored the middle overs with a composed 36 off 38 deliveries.

Although the scoring rate slowed following Ritu Moni’s seven-run cameo, a late-innings surge from Shorna Akter—who smashed an unbeaten 39 off just 22 balls—propelled Bangladesh to a competitive total of 123-6.

With this triumph, Bangladesh now sits in third place in Group A with four points from three matches.

The team will look to build on this historic performance as they prepare to face India and South Africa in their remaining group-stage fixtures, continuing their determined pursuit of a semifinal berth.
