Capitalizing on a commanding position built in the first innings, the visiting side ensured their early advantage was fully realized on Day 4.

Off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz spearheaded the second-innings bowling effort, taking 5 for 66 as Australia was bundled out for 284.

The dismissal left Bangladesh needing a modest target of just 57 runs for a historic victory.

Despite an early setback when opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim was dismissed for a duck by Josh Hazlewood—who finished with 6 for 89—in the second over, Bangladesh comfortably reached the target in 14.2 overs.

Seasoned batter Mominul Haque struck the winning boundary, cutting Beau Webster past backward point to seal the nation's maiden Test victory on Australian soil, long regarded as one of the sport's most formidable challenges.

Mominul remained unbeaten on 30 alongside opener Shadman Islam, who contributed 25 not out.

Australia had restarted the fourth day at 161 for 4, still trailing Bangladesh by 67 runs, hoping for a rescue act.

Middle-order batter Cameron Green offered resolute resistance on a surface offering generous assistance to the spin attack, scoring his third Test century with a patient 104 off 201 balls, including four boundaries and a six.

However, Green received minimal support from the opposite end as Miraz systematically broke down the Australian lineup.

Miraz struck early in the morning by removing overnight batter Alex Carey for 30, terminating a 56-run partnership with Green.

In response, Tanzid Hasan scripted history by becoming the first Bangladeshi batter to score a Test century in Australia, powering the visitors to 426 alongside crucial contributions from captain Najmul Hossain Shanto (84) and Miraz (65).

The resulting 228-run first-innings lead proved decisive in altering the outcome of the match.

With a 1-0 lead in the two-match series, Bangladesh will head to Mackay for the second Test starting August 22, aiming for an unprecedented series sweep on Australian soil.
