Former Bangladesh football head Kazi Salahuddin has secured another term as president of the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) without opposition, retaining his leadership over the regional governing body despite vacating his post at the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) last year.

The election took place on last Saturday during the official congress of SAFF held in Thimphu, Bhutan.

Salahuddin emerged as the sole contender for the top position after receiving formal nominations from the football governing bodies of Nepal and Bhutan.

A former standout player for the Bangladesh national team, Salahuddin spent 16 years heading the BFF before stepping down from his post following the political shifts in 2024.

However, his continuity at the regional helm remains uninterrupted, having continuously held the presidency of SAFF since his initial appointment in 2009—a tenure that now spans 17 years.

His path toward another term was paved after SAFF revised its organizational constitution, eliminating both the maximum age cap of 70 years and the restriction limiting presidents to a maximum of two terms.

Although the present administration of the BFF declined to endorse his nomination, Salahuddin successfully advanced his candidacy with the backing of Nepal and Bhutan's football federations.

In addition to the presidential election, the congress confirmed BFF vice-president Sabbir Ahmed Aref as a newly appointed member of the SAFF executive committee.
