Ten days after losing to India in Dubai, Bangladesh’s women suffered another defeat against the same opponents in Japan on Sunday, this time going down by 114 runs in the women's cricket semifinal of the ongoing Asian Games.

Chasing India’s imposing 195 for 4, Bangladesh were bowled out for just 81 in 15.4 overs, bringing an end to their hopes of winning the gold medal.

Nigar Sultana’s side will now face Pakistan in the bronze-medal match on Tuesday.

The defeat echoed Bangladesh’s loss to India in the Women’s Asia Cup on September 10, although the margin was significantly wider this time.

Shafali Verma once again proved to be the key difference between the two sides.

She had scored 64 off 40 balls in the Asia Cup encounter to help India set up their total.

On Sunday, however, she went a step further, smashing an unbeaten 100 off just 49 deliveries as India posted 196 for 4 in their allotted 20 overs.

More than half of India’s total came from Shafali’s bat alone.

Bangladesh’s response was even poorer than their chase in Dubai.

In that match, they managed to bat through their 20 overs, finishing on 109 for 7 and losing by 40 runs.

This time, their innings lasted only 15.4 overs, leaving more than four overs unused when they were dismissed for 81.

Pakistan also saw their tournament hopes end in the semifinals earlier on Sunday.

Fatima Sana’s team scored 177 for 4 in the first semifinal, but Sri Lanka successfully chased down the target, reaching the required total for the loss of two wickets with 14 balls to spare and securing an eight-wicket victory.

Sri Lanka will now meet India in the gold-medal match on Tuesday, while Bangladesh and Pakistan will contest the bronze medal on the same day.
