New Zealand secured a spot in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final with a commanding 50-run victory over South Africa, setting up a title clash with India.
Batting first, the Black Caps posted a formidable 363, thanks to centuries from Rachin Ravindra (108 off 101) and Kane Williamson (102 off 94). Their 164-run stand laid the foundation, while late cameos from Daryl Mitchell (49 off 37) and Glenn Phillips (49* off 27) pushed the total past 360. Lungi Ngidi (3/72) and Kagiso Rabada (2/64) were South Africa’s best bowlers.
In reply, South Africa’s chase faltered early as Ryan Rickelton fell cheaply. Temba Bavuma (56) and Rassie van der Dussen (69) put up a 105-run stand, but Mitchell Santner’s (3/43) breakthroughs turned the game.
David Miller fought back with a brilliant 100* off 67, but lacked support as wickets tumbled around him. New Zealand’s bowlers, led by Santner, Matt Henry, and Michael Bracewell, ensured the Proteas fell short.
“The platform set by Rachin and Kane was crucial, and the bowlers kept chipping away,” said NZ skipper Mitchell Santner.
New Zealand now prepares for a high-stakes final against India.
