The Bangladesh cricket team has been eliminated from the group stage of the ongoing Champions Trophy. Led by Najmul Hossain Shanto, the Tigers failed to meet even a fraction of the expectations they had set before departing for the tournament.
Carrying the disappointment of poor performances and repeated failures, the team landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 11 PM on Friday (February 28).
Bangladesh’s campaign began with a heavy defeat against India. Despite a poor batting display that prevented them from putting up a competitive total, the bowlers put up a fight in that match.
A similar pattern followed in the second match, where the batting unit collapsed once again, failing to cross the 250-run mark. The final group-stage match against Pakistan was abandoned without a toss due to rain, resulting in both teams being awarded one point each.
In total, Bangladesh played three matches in the tournament, managing to secure just a single point—two losses and one abandoned match. Pakistan finished with the same points, but due to a better net run rate, Bangladesh ended the tournament in third place in the group standings.
Despite returning home, the players will not get much rest, as they now have to prepare for the upcoming Dhaka Premier League (DPL).
