Nepal secured a historic T20 International series victory against the two-time T20 World Champions West Indies, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series with a resounding 90-run win. This marks Nepal's first-ever series victory against a full ICC member nation.
In the second T20 match played in Sharjah, UAE, on Monday (September 29), Nepal elected to bat after winning the toss.
Despite a shaky start—struggling at 43 for 3 after 6.4 overs—the innings was anchored by Aasif Sheikh and Sundeep Jora.
The duo put together a century partnership of 100 runs for the fourth wicket. Jora scored a blistering 63 off 39 balls, including five sixes and three fours. Aasif Sheikh, the wicketkeeper-batter, held firm at the other end, scoring an unbeaten 68 off 47 balls (eight fours and two sixes) to guide Nepal to a competitive total of 173 for 6 in their allotted 20 overs. Aasif Sheikh was named the Player of the Match.
In reply, the West Indies batting line-up completely crumbled. Dominated by the Nepalese bowlers, they were bundled out for just 83 runs in 17.1 overs. Mohammad Aadil Alam was the pick of the bowlers, taking 4 wickets for only 24 runs. Kushal Bhurtel claimed 3 wickets, while Lalit Rajbanshi, Dipendra Singh Airee, and Karan KC took one wicket each.
Experienced all-rounder Jason Holder was the highest scorer for the Caribbean side with 21 runs, as none of the other batters managed to establish themselves at the crease.
Prior to this game, Nepal had secured their first-ever T20I win against a full ICC member in the first match of the series, defeating West Indies by 19 runs in Sharjah. In that match, Nepal scored 148 for 8, and the West Indies could only manage 129 for 9 in their 20 overs.
