The Bangladesh women's cricket team has launched its World Cup mission with a fantastic victory, defeating Pakistan by seven wickets to start their tournament campaign on a high note.
Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Pakistan was bowled out for a modest total of 129 in just 38.3 overs. Rameen Shamim was the top scorer for her side with 23 runs.
Bowlers Dominate Pakistan Innings
The Bangladeshi bowlers delivered a clinical performance, never allowing the Pakistani batters to settle. Marufa Akter provided the early breakthrough with a double strike at the start of the innings.
Pakistan’s middle order crumbled under the pressure of spin from Nahida Akter and Rabeya Khan.
However, it was Shorna Akter who proved to be the standout bowler of the day, finishing with figures of 3 wickets for just 5 runs to be named the Player of the Match.
Marufa and Nahida each contributed two wickets, while Nishita Nishi, Rabeya Khan, and Fahima Khatun picked up one wicket apiece.
Rubaiya Haider's Fifty Anchors the Chase
In response, the Tigresses started slowly, but a brilliant half-century from Rubaiya Haider ensured the team chased down the target in 31.1 overs, losing only three wickets.
After the early failures of Fargana Hoque and Sharmin Akhter, Captain Nigar Sultana Joty and Rubaiya Haider stabilized the innings with a crucial 62-run third-wicket partnership.
Rubaiya, who goes by the nickname Jhilick, remained unbeaten on 54 runs off 77 balls, with Shobhana Mostary providing the final flourish with a quickfire 24 not out off 19 balls to seal the comprehensive victory.
This confident start, highlighted by Rubaiya Haider's stellar performance, provides a strong foundation for Bangladesh’s World Cup journey.
