407 killed in road accidents during Eid-ul-Fitr
At least 407 people were killed in 399 accidents on the country's roads and highways during the Eid-ul-Fitr this year. In addition, 1398 people were injured. This information has revealed in the observation of Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity.
Mozammel Hoque Chowdhury, secretary general of the organisation disclosed this information at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) in the capital on Saturday (April 20).
He said in a written statement that 407 people were killed and 1398 people were injured among 399 road accidents in last 15 days from the starting of Eid journey 4 April to 18 April when return to workplace. In last Eid-Ul-Fitr 2023, 328 people were killed and 565 were injured among 304 road accidents. Comparing to last year, road accidents 31.25%, Loss of life 24.08%, and Injured 147.43% has increased.
According to the reports, motorcycle accidents were in top of road accidents as usual. 165 people were killed and 240 people were injured among 198 motorcycle accidents in this Eid which is 49.62% of road accidents, 40.54% of killed people and 30.37% of injured people.
During this period, 24 people were killed and 21 injured in 18 accidents on the railway. Seven people were killed and five injured in two accidents on waterways. A total of 438 people were killed and 1,424 others injured in 419 accidents on road, rail and waterways.
