Earthquake jolts Bangladesh

There was a moderate earthquake in Myanmar; Which has been felt in Rangamati district of Bangladesh. According to the Bangladesh Earthquake Observatory, the magnitude of the earthquake was 5 on the Richter scale.

The 59 seconds of earthquake happend at 02:44 pm on Sunday, said Farzana Sultana, assistant meteorologist at the Bangladesh Earthquake Monitoring Centre.

She said a 5.0-magnitude earthquake hit Myanmar and was also felt in Bangladesh's Rangamati district. The epicenter of the earthquake was 442 kilometers away from Dhaka.

According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS) of India, the magnitude of the earthquake was 5.5 on the Richter scale. Its epicenter was 175 km southeast of Ngopa town in Mizoram and the center was at a depth of 110 km.

However, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the magnitude of the earthquake that struck south-southwest of the town of Mawlaik in Myanmar was 4.8.

Examples of different bodies measuring different magnitudes in the same earthquake are nothing new. This can be seen for a variety of reasons.

The impact of the earthquake that hit Myanmar was also felt in Rangamati, Bandarban, Chittagong in Bangladesh.

Earlier on Wednesday (May 29), three earthquakes shook the two border countries of India and Myanmar in just six hours. Two earthquakes were felt in Myanmar and one in India.
