Bangladesh will celebrate Eid-ul-Azha on Jun 17. The moon for the month of Dhu al-Hijjah has been sighted.

Minister of Religion Faridul Haque Khan revealed this information in a press conference on Friday (June 7) night.

He said, the moon of the month of Zilhaj was seen in Pirgacha of Rangpur division. The holy Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated in Bangladesh on June 17.

Earlier, the National Moon Sighting Committee held a meeting at Islamic Foundation meeting room on Friday evening to observe the moon of Zilhaj under the chairmanship of the Minister of Religion.

Meanwhile, the holy Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated on June 16 as the moon of the month of Zilhaj was sighted in Saudi Arabia on Thursday (June 6).

Note that Zilhaj is the month of self-sacrifice. The father of the Muslim nation, Ibrahim (a.s.) set a unique example of God's love by sacrificing his beloved son Ismail (a.s.) in this month. However, by the special mercy of Allah, an animal was sacrificed instead of Ishmail (a.s.).

Since then, the Muslims of the world sacrifice cows, goats, sheep, dumbas, camels, etc every year on Eid-ul-Azha.
