Though venomous, Russell's Viper doesn't bite harshly
Russell's Viper is the name of an embodied fear. It is an almost extinct venomous snake, which suddenly started to spread in the daily news. But zoologists say, Russell's Viper is really scurrying around like this, or spreading around by mouth.
It has been found that the farmers are afraid to go to the field due to fear, on the other hand where snakes are seen, they are being killed without knowing its species. In the current situation, zoologists request everyone to observe the matter carefully. However, the government has already taken several steps to allay farmers' fears, starting with advising them to wear knee-high boots.
Environmentalists say if snake antivenom can be confirmed, the death could be prevented. This snake is poisonous but does not bite anyone hurshly. If you are careful, snakes will also survive, people will also survive. Killing all the snakes without realizing, it will put pressure on the ecosystem. That will cause long-term damage.
A farmer of Rajshahi's Kakon Hat was asked - Russell's viper seen or not? He replied, 'I didn't, but my brother saw it.' When his brother was contacted, he said that the snake looked a little different. We call this snake 'Chandrabora'. But I'm not sure.
Dhaka University zoology department teacher asked what to do without spreading panic about this snake. Mohammad Feroz Zaman told the media that it is a poisonous snake. They usually eat rats, frogs, insects and other animals in agricultural land. If you kill a snake out of fear without knowing it, it will affect the food chain. Generally not all snakes eat mice, they do. We have no idea how much it will disrupt the way of life if rats grow. As a result, without spreading panic in the media, awareness should be increased.
He said, everyone needs to know about the appearances of this snake. It is similar to python, sandboar. But if you pay a little attention, you will see the difference in the round ring of the skin. Russell's Viper or Chandrabora has distinct wheel markings. The python's wheels are like nets, one attached to the other. Remember, there is nothing to fear. This snake does not run and chase, it will not come home and bites you.
Disaster management expert Gauhar Naeem Wara told the media that this snake has suddenly increased. It was not seen before 2000. It may have come from India through the flood. At this point, attention should be focused on quantifying the snake and securing antivenom.
He said, if we see a snake, we are going to be beaten to death here. It damages the ecology. Beeji, when I saw Guisap, I killed him with joy, that Beeji used to help by eating snakes. These are in our syllabus, but none of us remember it in daily life.
It should be noted that a research paper published in the journal of Bangladesh Asiatic Society in 2018 said that there were always a small number of Russell's vipers in different areas of Bangladesh. But as the breeding environment and sufficient food grew, it spread across the country along that belt through the Padma Basin. For this, the production of three crops a year on the same land is mentioned as one of the reasons.
