Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser of the interim government, is set to travel to New York on September 24 to attend the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly. This will be his first foreign visit as the Chief Adviser. He is scheduled to deliver a speech at the Assembly on September 27.

Shafiqul Alam, the Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, said that Dr. Yunus' speech at this year's General Assembly will highlight the heroic saga of the mass uprising by the students and people of Bangladesh on August 5. His speech will reflect on how the students, through their ultimate sacrifice, stood against fascism and successfully carried out a revolution, planting seeds of new hope among the people.

Additionally, Dr. Yunus will outline the reform programs the interim government has undertaken in areas like the electoral system, aimed at promoting democratic values, good governance, and building a prosperous Bangladesh in this second journey to victory.

In the changed circumstances following the fall of the ousted dictator Sheikh Hasina’s autocratic regime, Professor Yunus will attempt to present the philosophy of the people and the government of Bangladesh to the global community. He will convey how Bangladesh, as a proud and dignified nation, will represent itself on the global stage.

Shafiqul Alam further mentioned that Dr. Yunus will talk about the hopes and aspirations of the country’s students and citizens for the future of Bangladesh. He will make a heartfelt appeal to the international community to rise above geopolitical interests and join hands with Bangladesh.

During the UN General Assembly session in New York, Dr. Yunus is also expected to hold courtesy meetings with several world leaders. Additionally, he will participate in some side events.

It is worth noting that following intense student-led protests, Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled to India on August 5. Nobel Laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus was offered the position of Chief Adviser of the interim government, which he accepted. He assumed office on August 8.
