Interim Government Chief Adviser, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, stated that the entire world watched in awe as the people of Bangladesh stood firmly against dictatorship, oppression, inequality, injustice, and corruption, both on the streets and across social media.

He made this statement during his address to the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Friday, September 27.

Dr. Yunus said, "It is in the context of the revolutionary changes that took place in Bangladesh during July and August that I am able to stand here today before this great assembly of the global community. The boundless energy of our people, particularly the youth, has opened the door to the radical transformation of our existing state structures and institutions."

He continued, "At first, the student and youth movements were primarily anti-discrimination protests. Gradually, they evolved into a mass movement. The world watched in amazement as the people of Bangladesh united against dictatorship, oppression, inequality, injustice, and corruption, both on the streets and online."

The Chief Adviser remarked, "Through their indomitable determination and resolve, our students have freed us from a tyrannical and undemocratic regime. I believe that within this collective determination lies the future of our country, which will elevate Bangladesh to a responsible nation within the global community."

He added, "This people's movement has united the marginalized masses of Bangladesh, who were deprived of political rights and the benefits of development. Our people demanded inclusive participation in development efforts. They fought for a fair, inclusive, and effective democracy, for which our new generation sacrificed their lives."

Dr. Yunus highly praised the courage of the youth, who transformed the quota reform movement into a nationwide uprising. "The wisdom, bravery, and determination shown by our youth have overwhelmed us. They stood their ground, even in the face of gunfire."

He further said, "Schoolchildren selflessly offered their lives without hesitation. Hundreds of people have permanently lost their sight. Our mothers, laborers, and countless city dwellers joined their children on the streets. Braving scorching heat, rain, and the fear of death, they overcame a longstanding sinister plot to control the state machinery against truth and justice. As far as we know, we have lost over 800 lives at the hands of authoritarian forces in this people's movement."

The Chief Adviser concluded, "Bangladesh's 'Monsoon Uprising' will inspire people across the world in the days to come to stand for freedom and justice. I call upon the global community to engage with our new Bangladesh in a renewed manner, to help realize our aspirations for liberation and democracy."
