Ex-State Minister Kamal Ahmed Placed on 3-Day Remand
A Dhaka Court has granted a 3-day remand for Kamal Ahmed Majumdar, former Minister of State for Industries and former Member of Parliament (MP) of Dhaka-15 Constituency, in the murder case filed at the capital's Kafrul Police Station in connection with the death of a student named Ikramul Haque during the anti-discrimination student movement.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ali Haider passed the order on Saturday (October 19) after the investigation officer of the case produced Kamal before the court with a seven-day remand request.
Earlier, Kafrul police arrested Kamal Ahmed in the capital's Gulshan area on Friday (October 18) night.
Kafrul Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Golam Mostafa Kamal confirmed the matter and said that the owner of SS Agro Complex, former Minister of State for Industry and former Member of Parliament of Dhaka-15 Constituency Kamal Ahmed Majumdar has been arrested.
Kamal Ahmed Majumder went into hiding like other ministers after Sheikh Hasina left the country after being deposed on August 5. There are several cases against him.
OC Golam Mostafa Kamal said that he was arrested in a case at Kafrul police station.
Kamal Ahmed Majumdar was elected a Member of Parliament from Dhaka-15 Constituency in the last 12th National Parliament Election. Before this, he won the 11th parliamentary election and served as the Minister of State for Industries in Sheikh Hasina's fourth cabinet.
Kamal Majumdar was also elected a Member of Parliament from Awami League in 1996, 2009, and 2014. He is also the chairman of Mohona TV.
