Dhaka Sees Stable U.S. Ties, Unaffected by Election Outcome: Press Secretary
Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, has stated that regardless of who wins the U.S. presidential election, the United States will maintain a positive relationship with Bangladesh.
He added that Dr. Yunus has good relations with both the Democratic and Republican parties in the U.S., with friends on both sides.
He made these remarks on Saturday, November 2, at a mock parliament organized by "Debate for Democracy."
Shafiqul Alam noted that, in many countries, foreign policy does not change significantly regardless of which government comes to power. U.S. influence on democratic nations varies—sometimes significant, sometimes not.
He further remarked that Donald Trump’s comments on minority persecution in Bangladesh are purely a domestic political issue, likely influenced by lobbyists, and that the outcome of the upcoming U.S. election will have no impact on Bangladesh's politics.
Regarding India, the Press Secretary mentioned that Bangladesh has a good relationship with India and aims to maintain this positive relationship.
He also recalled that Bangladesh's mass uprising had global support, and even with India backing the ousted authoritarian regime, it was ineffective. When the people rise, no oppressive force can survive.
