Reform Commission Seeks Local Govt Elections Before National Elections
Election Reform Commission member Tofail Ahmed said that they want to complete the reform of the election system and hold local government elections before the national elections.
He told reporters at the Election Building in the capital's Agargaon area on Saturday (November 23) afternoon.
Tofail Ahmed said that the commission wants to complete the local government elections in one day, not in stages, to reduce costs. "The reforms we want to make will reduce the time and cost of the elections. Relatively less manpower will be required."
He said that 23,000 crore taka was spent in the last local government elections. If the local government elections are held through the parliamentary system, it will cost 600 crore taka and will also take less time.
Incidentally, the Election Reform Commission is in continuous dialogue with the aim of free, fair, and participatory elections. They exchanged views with senior journalists and editors of print media in the first phase last Thursday. The commission is scheduled to hold an online dialogue with Expatriate Bangladeshi on November 24.
