Sheikh Hasina's Extradition:
No Talks with Awami League, India to Be Asked, Says Asif Nazrul
Professor Dr. Asif Nazrul, the Advisor on Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment as well as Legal Affairs, has stated that discussions on reforms will take place with all political parties except the Awami League. He also mentioned that a request will be made to the Indian government to return former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
He made these remarks during a press conference held on Thursday evening, September 19, at the Foreign Service Academy, following a meeting with the Advisory Council and the committee formed to reform the constitutional framework.
Asif Nazrul stated, "Discussions on reforms will occur with all political parties except the Awami League. We will not engage in dialogue with those who have committed genocide, killed thousands of people, injured thousands more, and are in hiding to avoid justice. This is our clear stance."
When asked whether Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India, would be brought back to face trial for the cases against her, the Legal Advisor responded that the Indian government will be requested to return former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Asif Nazrul also noted that the interim government has established six reform commissions. These commissions will begin work in October and will submit their reports on reforms by December. In addition to overseeing free and fair elections, the committees will prioritize necessary state reforms.
Present at the press conference were the Chief Advisor’s Special Assistant Mahfuz Alam and Badiul Alam Majumdar, head of the Election Reform Commission.
