Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder, the head of the Election Reform Commission, remarked that if politics becomes a business rather than a means of public welfare, everything will be in vain.

He made this statement on the evening of Friday, December 27, at a national dialogue titled Unity, Reform, and Elections organized by the Forum for Bangladesh Studies (FBS) at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) in Dhaka.

Badiul Alam Majumder said, "For democratic transformation and change, we must first change our mindset. Additionally, the political culture must also evolve. Political parties must take effective steps to end the trade in nominations. The youth must also step forward to put a stop to this practice."

He explained that trading in nominations turns politics into a business, and unless this is stopped, all efforts will be in vain. "Legislation alone cannot put an end to nomination trading; what is needed is a change in the mindset of politicians," he added.

Highlighting the concept of reform as synonymous with change, the chief of the Election Reform Commission said, "We must come together to bring about change. We must collectively ensure free and fair elections. Even if laws are enacted after reform proposals, we must remember that the existing structure will resist such changes. Therefore, we must remain vocal and proactive to achieve our goals."
