Judicial Branch Must be Separated to Ensure Rule of Law: Chief Justice
Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed has said that the judicial branch must be separated from the executive branch to ensure the rule of law.
He made this comment at a workshop for young lawyers organized by the Supreme Court Bar on Saturday (November 30) morning.
The Chief Justice said that the Supreme Judicial Council has been formed to remove judges. A formal proposal has been made to the government to separate the judiciary.
Addressing the young lawyers, he said that institutional autonomy is an integral part of the independence of the judiciary. Young lawyers must strive to uphold the dignity of the judiciary. Lawyers must work more responsibly in the recent incidents that have occurred in the court arena. Overall, the judiciary will move forward in coordination with the bar and the bench.
At this time, a minute's silence was observed in the case of the murder of lawyer Alif. Later, special prayers were offered for the victims of the movement surrounding August 5.
It is worth noting that lawyer Saiful Islam Alif, who was murdered a few days ago, was also supposed to be present at today's workshop.
Apart from the Chief Justice, Senior Justice of the Appellate Division Zubair Rahman Chowdhury, Justice of the High Court Division Farah Mahbub, Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman, President of the Supreme Court Bar Mahbub Uddin Khokon, and President of the Nationalist Lawyers Forum Advocate Zainul Abedin were present at the workshop. About 1,500 new lawyers who became new members of the bar from all over the country attended the workshop.
