Saudi Offers Path to Legalization for Runaway Workers
The Saudi government has announced good news for expatriates who have become "hurub" (runaway workers) after being disconnected from their sponsors (kafil). These workers now have the chance to legalize their status, with the opportunity open until January 29, 2025.
This information was revealed by the Bangladeshi Embassy in Riyadh.
Mamunur Rashid, a legal assistant at the embassy, stated that expatriates who are in this situation as of November 2024 can become legal by January 29, 2025.
He further explained that Saudi authorities have informed them that workers declared as "hurub" before November 30, 2024, can now legalize their status. This process started on November 1 and will continue until January 29.
The legalization process will be carried out through specific procedures approved by the Saudi government. Workers will need to submit the required documents and relevant information to complete the process.
The Bangladeshi Embassy has set up various information services to assist expatriates. Workers are encouraged to contact the embassy for necessary guidance and support. Those who have not yet attempted to legalize their status are urged to take advantage of this opportunity quickly.
