The European Union (EU) has urged that the upcoming national election in Bangladesh be conducted neutrally and in line with international standards.

On Tuesday, January 28, following a meeting with the Election Commission at its office in Agargaon, EU Ambassador Michael Miller expressed the EU's stance.

"We want to see the democratic process in Bangladesh move forward. The European Union is ready to provide all necessary support to ensure the upcoming election is impartial and meets international standards," Ambassador Miller stated.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin, who was present at the meeting, confirmed that the EU plans to send observers to monitor the election process. He reiterated the Election Commission's commitment to ensuring a fair and transparent election.

"The EU has pledged its support in organizing an election that upholds democratic principles. They also highlighted the importance of maintaining the Election Commission's independence. However, they noted that the timeframe for implementing reforms has been limited," said the CEC.

Nasir Uddin further emphasized the Election Commission's dedication to conducting an acceptable and credible election.

"Reforms are necessary, but any changes that conflict with the constitution or undermine the independence of the Election Commission will not be acceptable," he asserted.
