Home Adviser Vows to Meet DUCSU Demands Over Osman Hadi Attack

Home Adviser Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury announced on Monday that all three demands raised by a Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU)-led delegation regarding the arrest of Sharif Osman Hadi's attackers are "rational and will be implemented."

A 14-member delegation of the DUCSU, led by its Vice President Sadik Qayem, met the Home Adviser at the Secretariat and urged swift action over the recent attack on Osman Hadi, the prospective independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency in the upcoming 13th National Parliament Election 2026 and spokesperson of Inqilab Moncho.

The Home Adviser made the statement at a press briefing held following a meeting with a 14-member delegation, led by DUCSU Vice President Abu Shadik Kayem.

The DUCSU VP issued a strong warning, stating that the "home adviser, foreign adviser and law adviser must resign from their posts if all the demands are not met immediately."

The student delegation presented a set of three demands, which included the immediate arrest of the attackers, planners and accomplices involved in the assault on Osman Hadi. The demands are:

Arrest and Accountability for Hadi Attack: They demanded the arrest of the direct participants, planners, and collaborators involved in the attack on July Uprising participant Osman Hadi. This must be coupled with holding all state organs concerned with law and order accountable for any negligence. Furthermore, the delegation called for the social boycott of all cultural figures who supported the attack and normalized the killing of July Uprising participants.

Combining Operations and Arrest of 'AL Terrorists': They demanded that law enforcement agencies launch area-wise combing operations against members of the Awami League, described as a banned political party, within 48 hours. All "terrorists" of the party must be arrested, and all illegal firearms must be recovered during these drives. They warned that the government’s negligence in this matter will not be tolerated.

Repatriation and Execution of Sheikh Hasina: The delegation demanded that ousted dictator Sheikh Hasina be repatriated from her self-exile in India and that the death sentence against her for crimes against humanity be executed. This was specified as an essential first step toward opposing Indian expansionism. They also demanded that diplomatic ties with India be reconsidered and not normalized until all fugitive convicts are returned.

In response to the delegation, Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury stated that the government will "execute every logical demand," emphasizing that the rational demands of the students must be fulfilled.
