Mirza Fakhrul Strongly Condemns Attacks on Media Houses, New Age Editor

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), issued a stern condemnation on Friday regarding the recent attacks on Prothom Alo, The Daily Star and New Age Editor Nurul Kabir.

Denouncing the violence against media professionals, he labeled the perpetrators as "enemies of Bangladesh," asserting that such actions threaten the country's stability.

“While the grieving nation was praying for the soul of martyr Sharif Osman Hadi, shameful attacks were carried out on media organisations, including The Daily Star and Prothom Alo, as well as on respected journalist Nurul Kabir and several others,” he said

In a Facebook post shared early Friday, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir emphasized that as a sovereign and independent nation, it is the fundamental duty of the government to guarantee the safety and security of every citizen.

He further said those who wait for national crises to take advantage of them are enemies of the country.

“They wait for moments of crisis. Today, they turned this tragic moment into an act of destruction. I strongly condemn this act of terror!”

The BNP leader also said Hadi was a candidate in the upcoming national election and had gone to people seeking votes. “The election will be held, and a democratic government elected by people will be formed in Bangladesh, InshaAllah.”

He said the assailants of Hadi must be brought to justice and every act of mob violence must also be punished.

Fakhrul said the country has witnessed various mob attacks for over a year, which have divided the nation.

“We urge all parties to work together responsibly and in unity. The government must take action immediately,” he added.

Earlier, the BNP Secretary General expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Sharif Osman Hadi, the spokesperson of Inqilab Moncho and an aspiring independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency in the upcoming 13th National Parliament Election 2026.

In a condolence message on Thursday night, he prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul of Sharif Osman Hadi and expressed his deepest sympathy to the bereaved family.

The BNP secretary general strongly condemned and protested the killing of Sharif Osman Hadi and demanded the immediate arrest of the perpetrators and exemplary punishment for them.

"After the fall of the Awami autocratic ruling clique through the student-mass movement, miscreants have once again become engaged in evil activities to reap benefits by creating instability and anarchy in the country. The killing of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi in a brutal attack by miscreants is a manifestation of that very conspiracy," he said.

"The enemies of democracy, voting rights and elections attacked Hadi with the intent to kill, leaving him critically injured. His death today while undergoing treatment at Singapore General Hospital is extremely painful," he said.

Such horrifying incidents are being repeatedly carried out to plunge the country and the nation into a grave crisis, he said.
