
Election Commission (EC) Secretariat Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed on Monday said that the deadline for submitting nomination papers for the upcoming the upcoming13th National Parliament Election 2026 and the Referendum on the July National Charter, will not be extended.
Speaking to journalists at the Nirbachan Bhaban, the EC Secretary clarified that, according to the official polls schedule, the window for filing nominations with Returning and Assistant Returning Officers expired at 5 pm this evening.
This follows the initial schedule announcement made by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin during his address to the nation on December 11.
With the submission phase closed, the scrutiny of nomination papers is set to begin on Tuesday and will continue through January 4.
Based on a revised decision issued by the commission on December 18, candidates will have a five-day window from January 5 to January 9 to appeal any decisions made by Returning Officers.
The period for disposing of these appeals has been extended by two days, now scheduled to take place from January 10 to January 18.
Following the resolution of disputes, the final date for the withdrawal of candidacy is set for January 20, with the formal allocation of symbols to follow on January 21.
