
Sri Lanka’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath arrived in Dhaka this afternoon to represent his government at the state funeral of former Prime Minister and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia
Minister Herath landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) at approximately 1 pm aboard a commercial flight.
He was received at the airport by the Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dharmapala Weerakkody, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA).
According to a spokesperson for the Sri Lankan High Commission, the Minister traveled directly from the airport to Manik Mia Avenue to join the thousands of mourners and international dignitaries gathered for the namaz-e-janaza.
Earlier, Foreign Affairs Ministers and parliamentary speakers from neighboring South Asian countries—including India, Pakistan, Nepal, and Bhutan—have arrived in Dhaka.
Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar arrived in Dhaka to pay his last respects, landing at 11:55 am aboard a special Indian Air Force flight. Representing Pakistan, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq reached Dhaka at 10:45 am to attend the ceremony.
From Nepal, Foreign Minister Bala Nanda Sharma arrived in the capital shortly before midnight on Tuesday. Bhutanese Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Lyonpo D.N. Dhungyel, arrived this morning and was received at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) by the Bhutanese Ambassador to Bangladesh and high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
