The Bangladesh High Commission in Mauritius opened a condolence book on Wednesday at its mission in Port Louis, allowing global leaders and the diplomatic community to pay their final respects to former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.

Following the passing of the three-time prime minister, the mission dedicated a three-hour window—from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on December 31—to honor her memory.

The event saw high-profile participation from the host nation, led by the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Dharambeer Gokhool, and Vice-President Jean Yvan Robert Hungley, both of whom signed the condolence book.

Mauritius’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration, and International Trade, Dhananjay Ramful, also visited the mission to express his formal condolences.

The ceremony drew a significant number of foreign diplomats and senior mission officials stationed in Port Louis.

Members of the diplomatic corps representing Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Egypt, Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Madagascar and South Africa were among those who signed the book to honor the late leader's legacy.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to Mauritius Zokey Ahad confirmed that these messages of sympathy would be permanently preserved in the High Commission's official records.

The gathering also included mission officials and members of the local Bangladeshi expatriate community, reflecting a widespread sense of mourning and respect for Begum Khaleda Zia on the international stage.
