Outgoing Bangladesh High Commissioner to India M Riaz Hamidullah reflected on his term in New Delhi, stating that he strived to contribute toward the quiet stabilization of bilateral ties, maintain continuous engagement and broaden mutual understanding between the two neighboring nations.

“During my 15+ months' stint in Delhi, as Bangladesh envoy, I tried to do my bit in quietly stabilising Bangladesh-India ties, engagements and deepening understanding across a wider spectrum,” Hamidullah noted.

His remarks followed a farewell courtesy call on Indian politician and former diplomat Harsh Vardhan Shringla, who was nominated to the Rajya Sabha as a Member of Parliament by the President of India in July 2025.

Commending the outgoing envoy's tenure, Shringla stated, “As he concludes his tenure in New Delhi, I wish him every success in his next assignment and thank him for his dedicated efforts in strengthening India–Bangladesh ties.”

The former Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh added that he feels confident the enduring friendship and partnership between Bangladesh and India will continue to grow stronger.

High Commissioner Hamidullah, a senior career diplomat, assumed his post in New Delhi on April 14, 2025, succeeding Mustafizur Rahman.

Meanwhile, Indian Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal affirmed on Friday that India looks forward to collaborating with the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi to further bilateral relations.

“On Bangladesh, yes, you know, we have been informed that a new officer has been posted and we look forward to working with the High Commission here to take our ties forward,” Jaiswal said in response to queries during a routine press briefing.

The MEA spokesperson's comments came after the appointment of journalist Saidur Rahman, currently serving as the political and election affairs editor at the Daily Ittefaq, as Minister (Press) at the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi.

According to a gazette notification published by the Ministry of Public Administration last week, Rahman has been appointed on a contractual basis for a one-year tenure, taking effect from the day he joins.

The position of Minister (Press) had been vacant since February following the departure of journalist Faisal Mahmud, whose nine-month contractual term—originally initiated under the former interim government—was cancelled.
