The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has submitted a final report before the court in an attempted murder case linked to the July Uprising, citing serious factual inconsistencies and lack of evidence.

According to a PBI press release here today, the case was filed on September 3, 2024, with Dhanmondi Police Station by one Sharif (37) of the Hazaribagh Tannery Area in the city.

The complainant alleged that his younger brother, Md. Shahed Ali (27), along with nine others, was injured in an attack near Mina Bazar, Dhanmondi-27, on August 4, 2024, at around 11:00 am.

The case named 113 accused, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

During the investigation, the PBI found that no individual named Md. Shahed Ali had ever lived at the address mentioned in the complaint, nor was he related to the plaintiff as claimed.

Verification revealed that the national identity card provided for the alleged victim was fake and not linked to any registered mobile number.

Additionally, despite claims that the victim was associated with Simanta Square, market authorities confirmed they had no record of such a person.

Efforts to verify other alleged victims also proved unsuccessful. Written statements from the principals of Dhaka College and Dhaka City College indicated that identification of the mentioned students was not possible due to the absence of complete addresses.

Despite repeated notices and direct requests, the plaintiff failed to present any victim or provide accurate and complete information.

Furthermore, physical and circumstantial evidence collected from the incident spot did not support the occurrence of any such event at the specified time and place.

Based on these findings, the PBI concluded that the case contained fundamental factual errors and lacked credible evidence.

As a result, a final report was submitted to the court, reaffirming the agency’s position that all cases, including those related to the anti-discrimination movement, are being investigated with professionalism, neutrality, and due diligence, the release added.
