The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has formally voiced concerns over what it describes as "unusually large" voter migrations in Dhaka and other regions, demanding that the Election Commission (EC) release specific, constituency-wise data to ensure transparency ahead of the national polls.

A high-level BNP delegation, led by Election Steering Committee Chairman Nazrul Islam Khan, met with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin at the Nirbachan Bhaban on Sunday to address these irregularities.

Speaking to reporters following the meeting, Nazrul Islam Khan expressed skepticism over the figures currently provided by the commission.

“A large number of voters migrated to some specific constituencies, which is unusual,” he stated, noting that while the EC claimed the number of migrated voters per constituency does not exceed 2,000 to 3,000, the party finds this estimate significantly underrepresented.

The BNP leadership asserted that the commission may be operating on flawed data.

“We think they were not provided with untrue information. In fact the number of migrated voters is so high…. We demanded for the constituency-wise migration,” Khan said, adding that the party remains unsatisfied with the EC's initial verbal response.

Beyond the logistical concerns of voter lists, the BNP also accused activists from a rival political party of exploiting religious sentiments to influence the electorate—a tactic that violates the Representation of the People Order (RPO).

He highlighted a specific instance of religious manipulation, stating, “Someone of a party was heard telling that a Muslim would have to answer the 4th question in the grave if he or she casts votes for a specific symbol. They are doing this using religious belief and sentiment, which is a clear violation of RPO.”

The BNP has urged the Commission to take immediate action against such communal campaigning to maintain a fair electoral environment.
