In a landslide victory reflecting a significant shift in the political landscape, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)-backed candidate and former Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman has been unofficially declared the winner of the Jhenaidah-1 constituency in the 13th National Parliament Election and the concurrent constitutional Referendum.

According to preliminary data collected by the Jhenaidah District Commissioner’s Office, Asaduzzaman secured a commanding 171,598 votes, vastly outpacing his closest competitor, Jamaat-nominated candidate Matiur Rahman, who garnered 55,577 votes.

The unofficial results were shared by Rathindranath Roy, Deputy Director of the Local Government Department (DDLG), who noted that the formal announcement would follow the arrival of signed result sheets from the field.

This victory comes as part of a broader national polling day that concluded on Thursday in a largely peaceful atmosphere.

The election, held across 299 constituencies, saw a massive mobilization of nearly one million security personnel and an equal number of polling staff to ensure the integrity of the process at over 42,000 stations.

Beyond selecting parliamentary representatives, citizens participated in a simultaneous referendum, casting "Yes" or "No" votes on proposed constitutional amendments aimed at national reform.

As the country looks toward the restoration of democratic norms, Asaduzzaman’s significant margin in Jhenaidah-1 stands as a notable highlight of this landmark election day.
